We all believe that if we make duaa, Allah will immediately resolve our problem; else, He will be disappointed with our performance. In this khutbah, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan teaches us that nothing could be further from the truth.
This is demonstrated by a simple assessment of all of Allah's messengers' tribulations: Prophet Nuh made daawa for 950 years, but his closest companions never followed; Prophet Muhammad made duaa for his uncle, but Abu Lahab continued to oppose him; and Prophet Yacoub sobbed so hard at the loss of his son Youssef that he lost his sight.
Maryam's tale is another wonderful example. She was so taken aback when the angel told her she'd have a child - the worst punishment she could imagine - that she pleaded to Allah that she'd rather die than suffer humiliation in her community. Prophet Esa (AS), the child who caused all that pain, turns up to be the reason she is still revered hundreds of years later.
